Pol Pot’s daughter weds

To a passing stranger, the distant sound of music may have hinted at just another celebration in a typically busy wedding season fast drawing to a close.
But this was no ordinary wedding. The biggest crowd that some villagers could ever recall seeing in Banteay Meanchey’s Malai district was gathered yesterday to witness the wedding of a woman whose genealogy will forever remain notorious across the country and, indeed, the world.
Pol Pot’s daughter, Sar Patchata, was getting married.
Rows of luxury cars lined a field in Malai commune’s Kbal Spean
village, a former Khmer Rouge stronghold. Assembled inside the wedding
party were officials from as far away as Phnom Penh. Alongside them were
former Khmer Rouge soldiers who had travelled a much shorter distance
to attend and whose friendships with each other went back decades.
“It’s a good opportunity,” said Ros Ka, a former Khmer Rouge soldier who spent years fighting with forces loyal to Pol Pot and who was enjoying the chance to see some of his former comrades for the first time in years. “We can meet with the seniors after we have lived apart for years. You don’t know how delighted we are.”

កញ្ញ ស ផត្ជតា អាយុ ២៦ ឆ្នាំ គឺជាកូនស្រីទោលរបស់ លោក ប៉ុល ពត ឬ សាឡុត ស និងអ្នកស្រី មាស សោម ដែលបានរៀបការនៅពាក់កណ្ដាលទសវត្សរ៍ឆ្នាំ ១៩៨០ បន្ទាប់ពីរបបខ្មែរក្រហមត្រូវបានផ្ដួលរំលំ។ ការរៀបការនោះ ធ្វើឡើងខណៈដែលលោក ប៉ុល ពត បានបន្តដឹកនាំចលនាខ្មែរក្រហមនៅតាមបណ្ដោយព្រំដែន កម្ពុជា-ថៃ ដើម្បីវាយប្រឆាំងជាមួយរដ្ឋាភិបាលទីក្រុងភ្នំពេញ។
លោក ប៉ុល ពត បានរៀបការជាមួយប្រពន្ធទីមួយម្តងរួចមកហើយ គឺលោកស្រី ខៀវ ប៉ុណ្ណារី ប៉ុន្តែពុំមានកូននោះទេ។
នៅក្នុងរោងការដែលមានទីធ្លាធំទូលាយអមទៅដោយសួនច្បារនៅក្នុង ភូមិ ដែលមានការរចនាយ៉ាងល្អនោះលោក ជិន ណែត ដែលបម្រើការជាមួយលោក ទេព ឃុនណាល់ អតីតអភិបាលស្រុក ម៉ាឡៃ ដែលត្រូវជាឪពុកចុងរប កញ្ញា ស ផត្ជតា បានថ្លែងឲ្យដឹងថា ពិធីមង្គលការនេះ គឺជាពិធីមង្គលការធំជាងគេនៅក្នុងស្រុក ម៉ាឡៃ ដែលពុំធ្លាប់មាន ហើយក៏មានភ្ញៀវដែលជាអតីតថ្នាក់ដឹកនាំខ្មែរក្រហមមកចូលរួមច្រើន ផងដែរតាំងពីតាមបណ្តាខេត្ត និងជាពិសេសមន្ត្រីមកពីរាជធានីភ្នំពេញ។
លោកថ្លែងថា៖ «មូលហេតុដែលនៅក្នុងលិខិតអញ្ជើញក្នុងពិធីមង្គលការរបស់ ផត្ជតា ដាក់ឈ្មោះលោក ឃុន ណាល់ នោះ ដោយសារតែគាត់បានចិញ្ចឹមបីបាច់ថែរក្សានាង តាំងពីនាងនៅអាយុប្រមាណ ១០ ឆ្នាំ បន្ទាប់ពីលោក ប៉ុល ពត បានស្លាប់»។

As an unlicensed doctor sits in pre-trial detention on charges of murder and infecting his patients with HIV in Battambang province, the Ministry of Health is drafting a letter to provincial authorities nationwide, urging them to crack down on illegal medical practices immediately, according to a senior official.
The new directive comes on the heels of a similar notice to provincial health departments on December 18, mere days after it emerged that some 70 people in Battambang’s Sangke district had been infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. The infecti

“It is the same topic, but the second one will be sent directly to the capital-provincial halls to take an urgent action against [unlicensed health services],” said Sok Srun, director of the medical department at the Ministry of Health. “We are drafting it and it needs checking.”
“We will also take immediate measures when we get any information or problems from the provinces,” he added.
