Cambodian opposition leader said on Sunday that he is planning to release more documents and maps showing Vietnamese encroachments on Cambodian borders, reports Radio France Internationale.
Speaking to his supporters via a video link from Paris, Mr. Rainsy said, based on the maps and documents, the six border stakes (post #185) that he uprooted on 25th October last year and other border stakes located nearby in Chantrea district in Svay Rieng province are situated from between 300-500 metres well within Cambodian territories. He said those border stakes are not border markers, but they are invasion markers.
The opposition leader said at the end of this month, the Cambodian people will know who is the real patriot and who is the real traitor.
Mr. Var Kimhong, Cambodian chief border negotiator, responded to Mr. Sam Rainsy's comments on the same day welcome Mr. Rainsy's new evidences of border encroachment. He suggested that Mr. Rainsy should return home to Cambodia and presented thosedocuments to the court.
Mr. Rainsy's plan to release more documents happened two days after the Cambodian government officially charged him on 12th March with document forgery and disinformation after he released a series of documents and maps purported to show Vietnamese encroachments of Cambodian borders. the government said those maps and documents are forged by Mr. Sam Rainsy.
On 27th January, he was convicted and sentenced in absentia to 2 years jail for sabotage and destruction of public properties for his role in the uprooting of six wooden borderstakes last year.
